Education & Schools
We focus on Education, working with great people to provide Home Education sessions alongside visiting Schools
Educational Sessions
Our educational sessions are fun, interactive and informative. We offer organised group open sessions or we can work with your own group, working with Home Education families and other groups.
We offer a range of subjects with Birds of Prey and Owls at the centre of the topic, our sessions are hands on and fun!
Home Education at Harewood
We’re very excited to share our partnership with Harewood Estate! Working together to bring you a unique opportunity to learn about both Birds of prey and the animals behind the scenes on the estate of Harewood House.
Our sessions are fun, relaxed, hands on and all the family can join in with the learning!
The fun doesn’t stop when the session does, once you leave us, spend your day exploring the 4000 acre estate (no access to the House and Gardens)
These sessions are for Home Education Families and are £15 per child. Please note that these sessions are on specific dates and are ticket only.
Schools
We take a variety of birds of prey including Owls and Hawks to schools in and around Yorkshire.
Our aim at KL Falconry is to provide old and young with the opportunity to have hands on experience, teaching the importance of wild and captive birds of prey and owls whilst maintaining a respect for our animals by not allowing handling or touching.
Our school team provide interactive sessions to one class or whole school groups. We cover a wide range of subjects throughout the National Curriculum and can tailor our talks to any age and subject around the various Key stages. Below are just some of the subjects that we have covered in previous schools;
- Owl Babies
- Light and Dark
- Predators
- Feathered animals
- Nocturnal animals
- Predators
- Hunting, food and digestion
- Science week
- Well-being week
Our experienced falconers will talk to the children on their level, adding in more depth for the teachers. We can provide sessions from 1 hour to a full day – we can be placed in the classroom for single sessions, the hall for multiple sessions or outside. Our birds will be brought into the school in their travel boxes, they will then be taken out in turn – the falconer will take the birds around for the children to see whilst talking about this bird and answering any questions that are being asked. Please note we do not allow anyone to touch our birds.
We also offer educational presentations to a variety of different groups and clubs, we have visited a range of groups over the years including; brownies, rainbows and scouts groups, farmers clubs, rotary clubs, lions and much more! If you have a group that you would like us to attend, please get in touch.
